Can a fingerless LEGO figure wear a ring? Well, it seems so
It is always a good time to start another epic toy journey based on one of the popular LEGO sets. The chosen this time has been J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit. Developed by Traveller’s Tales game studios, LEGO: The Hobbit bases its story on the new trilogy directed by Peter Jackson, which narrates the adventure of Bilbo Baggins to free the Dwarves from Smaug, the evil dragon character that has taken over Lonely Mountain. This version is to be released for Nintendo 3DS and WiiU, Sony PlayStation 3, PS4 and Vita, Xbox 360 and One, as well as the PC version for download.
The game will take the player through the first two movies, showing the peculiar version with LEGO characters making a great parody of the original motion picture. This time you will follow the steps of Bilbo Baggins, a regular hobbit that with the help of Gandalf joins Thorin Oakenshield in his mission of taking back Sindarin Erebor, the Lonely Mountain where his dwarven dynasty ruled before Smaug took over the richness inside the mountain.
One of the aspects in which this game really stands out is the plastic design. The graphic part shows all the characters as if they were actually plastic toys brought in directly from LEGO: The Hobbit figure sets. Although the game may seem very childish due to the LEGO theme, the development and the comments of the characters makes it really recommendable for those players that want to have a good time with a simple title without too many worries.
Fight for your fate
During the game, you can play with different characters depending on the situation. Among these playable toys, one that you can control is the main protagonist, Bilbo Baggins, using his intelligence, Gandalf the Grey, who counts on his magic skills or Thorin, who uses his physical strength to beat the Orcs and goblins that will try to stop you.
Each character has unique skills that should be used in order to succeed in some situations. For example, Gandalf is the only character that can destroy the blue pieces found in the stages, which can grant new paths. During your journey, you will have to solve different kinds of puzzles with the elements you will find in the stage. You can also craft additional LEGO structures for reaching high places, bearing in mind that you play with several short LEGO pieces.
This game is the perfect example of what you can do with a solid idea and tons of imagination
In general terms, LEGO: The Hobbit is not loyal to the original Tolkien novel, but it doesn't so much aim for that. Rather, this game is the perfect example of what you can do with a solid idea and tons of imagination. From Goblin-Town to Mirkwood or Rivendell, this game takes you on a thrilling adventure ride, along with Thorin's companions such as Dori, Nori, Bifur, Bombur and Bofur.
